Pay anyone with a payment link, like handing over cash
A payment link holds a note in a one-time key. Anyone who opens it can claim the note for themselves, and until someone does, you can reclaim it.
How a link works
Your browser makes a fresh one-time key and you send a note to it. The link carries that key in its # fragment, the part of a URL a browser keeps to itself and never sends to any server. Opening the link claims the note: the app proves a spend of it into the opener’s keys through the bundler, with the fee paid from the linked note.
To the chain, a linked note looks like every other note.
Create a link
- 01
Open payment links
In /app, choose to create a link.
- 02
Enter the amount
Include enough for the recipient’s claim fee, which is taken from the note.
- 03
Prove and submit
The note for the one-time key is created like any private send.
- 04
Share the link
Send it over a channel you trust. Keep your own copy.
Claim a link
- 01
Open the link
It opens the app with the note ready to claim.
- 02
Sign to open your notes
The app needs your keys to send the note to you.
- 03
Claim
The app proves the spend and the bundler submits it. The note arrives in your balance.
Take a link back
If nobody has claimed it yet, open your own copy and claim it yourself. The note moves back into your keys the same way. Once someone else has claimed it, it is theirs.
What can go wrong
- Link already claimed. The note is spent; the app shows that. If it was not you or the intended recipient, the link leaked.
- Link lost. The one-time key lives only in the link. Without any copy, nobody can claim the note.
